"Governing Council has not been constituted at the moment and with feelers we are getting, if students don’t speak out, delay may make the close shut for longer."Students of the Obafemi Awolowo University on Wednesday, July 6, have expressed their displeasure about the closure of the institution.
The Association of Campus Journalists OAU, in a statement, urged the students to begin a social media protest.
The statement reads in part, “We have sampled Students opinion and we know Students want to resume.
“We are dedicated to being the masses voice objectively and to this end will not shy away from our duties.
“Governing
Council has not been constituted at the moment and with feelers we are
getting, if students don’t speak out, delay may make the close shut for
longer.
“With the current pace of events, if Students do not voice out, the break still has long days ahead.
“Join us on Twitter and Facebook as we take over the Social media with #ReopenOAU.”
Several
students, in reaction, took to the social media to join the campaign.
They expressed their desire to return the school, with one saying, "5 months left in this year and we haven't even started 2015/2016 session."
This is following the Federal Government's decision to dissolve the school's government council.
