The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture, (FUNAAB), Abeokuta, Prof Olusola Oyewole, alongside the Institution Bursar, Moses Ilesanmi have been reportedly questioned by the
Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday, August 17.
TheNation reports that the duo was quizzed following a petition received by the antigraft body from a group known as ‘Concerned Stakeholders of FUNAAB.’
Confirming their invitation, the EFCC official face book page, ‘OfficialEFCC’, said that they were invited for questioning based on allegations of corruption levelled against them. The allegation is based on unbridled corruption and betrayal of public trust.
The university officials were told to come along with certified true copies of documents including those of capital projects executed in their tenure,” the post read.

The EFCC is also investigating payments made by the university to the governing council of the institution led by a former senator, Adeseye Ogunlewe.
The invited officials were asked to come with records of all payments made to Mr. Ogunlewe and other members of the governing council since their appointment in 2013.
Mr. Ogunlewe, who represented Lagos State in the Senate, was appointed pro-chancellor of the university by former President Goodluck Jonathan.
An internal sources in the institution further revealed to The Nation that the duo are being investigated for spending over 250  million Naira for allowances in four years in a university that is crying out for lack of funds for the primary mandate of teaching, research and extension services.
The source further said that: “In the same period of four years, the Vice-Chancellor has gotten approvals cumulating to almost N100 million for spurious allowances which run contrary to government directives on payment of salaries, emoluments and allowances for public officers.
“A situation where the university has palatial vice chancellors lodge, yet collects huge allowances running into tens of millions for same. A situation where furniture allowance is to be received only once in the term of the office holder but the Vice Chancellor of FUNAAB collects furniture allowances annually.”

Oloyede warned that no candidate must emanate from any other source (JAMB inclusive), outside the list prepared and recommended by the institutions.
The registrar, Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Is-Haq O. Oloyede has said that admission into the Federal tertiary institutions in the country must comply with the national policy.
Speaking yesterday, August 22 in Kano, Oloyede warned that no candidate must emanate from any other source (JAMB inclusive), outside the list prepared and recommended by the institutions.
Oloyede said this during the First Technical Committee on admission to First Choice Institutions held at the Bayero University, Kano (BUK).
He said that the Senate/ Academic of each institution has the prerogative of admitting candidates, “but this must be in adherence to the national policy.
He added that, “for the first time, there won’t be written post  Universal Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) test  for candidates, seeking admission into Nigerian Universities this year.

However, he insisted that all other processes should and would be as they have always been.
According to Oloyede, the Senate or Academic Board of each institution reserves the prerogative of admitting candidates of their respective institutions, subject of course only to national policies.
Among others, the policies include, guidelines stipulated by the proprietors of the institution on 60/40 (Science/Art) ratio for conventional Universities, 80/20 (Science/Arts) ratio for non-conventional Universities and use of 2016 JAMB/UTME results print out for all candidates, who scored 180 and above.

Breaking News: Chaos In FUNAAB as Police Stray Bullet Injures Undergraduate, Students Go On Rampage, Set Cars Ablaze

Two students of the Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta (FUNAAB) have been rumored dead.

The riot broke out in the school premises on Thursday morning following the students protest over incessant invasion of armed robbers into their hostels.

A source who spoke with CM said:

” For the past few months, we’ve been faced with daily cases of robbery attacks in Funaab. They storm hostels to dispossess students of their laptops, mobile phones and cash.

“So earlier this morning, around 3am the robbers struck again but the students decided to put up a defense this time around and they were caught at Isolu town near the school campus, we caught two of them and we brought them back to the school campus so they won’t be killed by residents of the town.

“We reported to the security operatives in the school and this morning, as expected, the polices came to take them away but students refused and the policemen had to resort to shooting into the air and firing tear gas to dispatch students and scare them”.

The policemen who came from Elewe Eran Police Division shot several rounds of bullets into the air to scare students away but a stray bullet hit a student in the eye and he has also been confirmed to be alive at the Federal Medical Centre in Idi Aba, Abeokuta .
The angry students then gathered and are currently burning cars to show their displeasure and grief over the alleged misfortunes of their colleagues.

PRESS RELEASE FROM THE OFFICE OF DEPUTY COORDINATOR NANS ZONE D

I STAND AS A SOLIDARITY TO THE OPPRESSED STUDENTS OF FUNAAB, FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF AGRICULTURE, ABEOKUTA

NIGERIA POLICE FORCE HAVE MURDERED OUR SLEEP AND NEVER SHALL THEY KNOW REST

There is no greater tyranny than that which is perpetrated under the shield of the law and in the name of justice.
Montesquieu,

Few minutes ago, I received a text message from the students from FUNAAB. With sober heart and remorseful state, I received a text on how a student of FUNAAB was murdered and how students were attacked in broad-daylight by the Nigeria Police Force during peaceful and calm demonstration against incessant robbery at their respective hotels. This recent scenario is a clear attempt and a sign that our police officers have turn to death trap to Nigerian students.

I could not hold my anger when the student who called was explaining how this awful incidence occurred. I have watched many protests on television and I have seen how police officers regulate law, peace and orderliness in countries of the world. I have seen how students, youths and citizens demonstrate against any unpleasant policy of the government without fear or any act of assault or battery but why is our own a different scenario within the eyes of the world?

Nigeria Police Force has not only fail us in their duties to protect the good people of Nigeria but they have extended their failures by killing innocent citizens especially students they are meant to protect and guard jealously. They turned themselves to criminals, orphans of the law, oppressors and agents of injustice which is a sign that we are in a hopeless nation if those that are responsible for our safety are killers of our brothers and sisters.

This is an act of injustice. This act is barbaric, awful, illegal and unconstitutional. This act is despotic, unfair and totally uncall for by any rational individual. This is oppression and act of slavery but we shall demand for freedom,we shall not remove our eyes from liberation until we achieve this.

It is very visible and clear that we are not safe as youths and students to protect against any obnoxious policy or injustice without been murdered or assassinated. It is very clear and visible that our rights has been removed as citizens and how identity as students has been nullified because we have been treated as criminals and agents of disturbance. This is awful and remorseful because I couldn't control my anger & tears.

OUR DEMANDS
.
• We demand for justice and a review of the entire Nigeria Police Force under the leadership of Inspector General Idris Kutigi.
.
• We demand for the removal of Ogun State Commissioner of Police by the Inspector General Idris Kutigi through the use of Nigeria Police Commission.
.
• We demand for deep investigation on this ugly scenario & we want our killers to be brought to justice.
.
• We demand for an open public opinion which will be free and accessible for students leaders and entire students for us to witness how our killers will be judged and punished.
.
• We demand for immediate mental check-up and test for every police officer within the nation because it is our belief that some police officers are unfit and medically unstable.
.
• We demand for the immediate detention and prosecution of the inspector who led the police unit during this ugly act.

Days of negotiation and dialogue has been exhausted. There is no need for peaceful discussion because we have decided to go for dangerous freedom than peaceful slavery. We have decided to inform the world our brothers, colleagues, mates and sisters were murdered.

There is no room for ultimatum. There is no room for time because we have exhausted our time during massacre of our students in Nassarawa and accidental discharge in RUGIPO, Rufus Giwa Polytechnic Owo. We are ready to use Nigeria Police Command, Ogun state as an example for others to follow.

There is no room for peace until our demands are fulfilled. We shall never rest until our killers are brought to justice. We shall never sleep until our murderers are brought to face the wrath of law but we shall gladly help the police if our wrath can be faced as Nigeria students. Any student leader who tries to sell out this struggle for cheap fund and fame shall be cursed by the spirits of dead students.

Truly, freedom cometh by struggle and we are ready to act accordingly without fear or favors. We shall rock Ogun and her environs. Truly, they are in soup.
