Terrorists Write University Of Ibadan Authorities, Say We Will Bomb University Before October 1st

Ui
There was tension in the University of Ibadan on Friday as a threatening message that purportedly emanated from a group, al-wilayat al-Islamiyya Gharb Afriqiyyah, was circulated among some staff of the institution and on social media platforms.
According to the message, the group threatened to bomb the school before Independence Day on October 1, 2016, saying that students and staff were their targets.
When contacted, The Director of Communication, UI, Olatunji Oladejo, dismissed the threat, saying it was the handiwork of mischievous individuals who wanted to cause commotion in the school.
It was gathered that while some lecturers got the mail through their institutional e-mail addresses, others were copied through social platforms such as Whatsapp.
In the mail, the group described the university as an embarrassment to Nigeria for bringing western education.
It was observed that security arrangement was strengthened at the school gates with scanning devices deployed while stop and search was conducted on everyone entering the school, leading to a gridlock.
The letter read in part, "You people are an embarrassment to Nigeria and are the people that brought in western education to Nigeria. You doomed this nation and in turn you all are going to be doomed. Most of you are going to die before Independence Day. You will not spend the Independence Day in peace, you and your students.
"Detonation will start going from tomorrow till Independence Day and there is nothing you can do as we are among you. Even your little searches at the gate won't do anything. By the time we are through with you, your government will be sorry."
Speaking on the alleged threat, Oladejo said like others, he also received the letter, while saying that it had not affected the peace of the school.
He said, "I also got it. Anyone could instigate such thing. Some people could be mischievous. Our international students are having their carnival on the campus and everywhere is peaceful. I attribute it to the handiwork of mischievous individuals and vehemently deny any commotion."
Police Public Relations Officer of the state police command, Adekunle Ajisebutu, told our correspondent that the command had received information on the threat to lives and property on the campus and had responded appropriately.
He said, "We have received the information. The state Commissioner of Police, Samuel Adegbuyi, working in concert with the other security agencies, has put in place all necessary security arrangement to forestall such an ugly incident.
"We have deployed our intelligence officers to provide adequate security in the school. As it is, it is still a rumour but we don't want to take things for granted and because of this, we have provided adequate security, not only for the school, but for the people of the state.
"We enjoin members of the public to go about their lawful businesses and to be law-abiding."

Exclusive interview with the CEO of Oama Beadz

"Success is the ability to live your life to the fullest doing what you love doing and making the best out of it, ensure not to exclude God"

The CEO of OAMA Beadz, Ayomide Ogunbiyi (OAMA) was born in the United States of America. Oama Beadz is a brand under the parent company, Oama Empire which was founded by Mr Ayomide Ogunbiyi. We had the opportunity to have an interview with him while on his short vacation in Nigeria.

  • CM :Can we meet you?
  • OAMA:My name is Ayomide Ogunbiyi Michael Afolarin. I was born in the Unites States, precisely New York City and I'm currently studying Business Management at the University of Bradford in UK.

  • CM :What year were you born ?
  • OAMA: 26th of June, ????I won't mention my year incase of those ladies that plan to hook up with me. LOL!!!๐Ÿ˜Ž

· CM : Your educational background  ?
· OAMA : I attended Apostolic Faith Secondary School (AFSS), Anthony Village, Lagos, where I completed my secondary school education. After which I attended foundation year at Oxbridge Tutorial college (OTC), Sobo Arobiodu, Ikeja, Lagos.

· CM : You started with only beads , what made you diversify ?
· OAMA: What made me diversify ? Well, I realized I had great potentials in me so I decided to try my luck on other forms of businesses. At the moment, I have Oama Beadz  running internationally ,Oama 5-A-Side league running in UK, working on my fashion line at the moment "Oama Kulture" . So, I am here to build me my own business empire!
.
· CM: Any hidden talents we should know about ?
· OAMA: I would say I'm very good with girls.

· CM: Are you dating anyone presently ?
· OAMA: No, I am not.

· CM :What brought about "OAMA BEADZ"
· OAMA : Oama Beadz, formerly known as 'OAMA Bead biz' is one of the few other companies under the 0ama Empire of which will be made public in the soonest while. 0ama Beadz was born at about June/July, 2011. It all started out to be an examination, Junior Secondary Certificate Examination (JSCE) popularly known as Junior WAEC. A fine art practical JSCE in which my bead artwork attained second position in the whole of Lagos State. Afterwards, bead painting became a thing of leisure to me not until I made my first sale on an artwork. I was given a job to do the logo of Mutual Benefits Assurance Plc. from which I earned a large amount of money. Everything that happened afterwards became 0ama Beadz.

· CM: What's the meaning of "OAMA"
· OAMA: My nickname is 'OAMA'. Well, you don't need any special knowledge to figure out how it came about, my initials. It all started when I wanted to begin Oama Beadz and I needed a name to use on the business card I was doing. So, I sat at the computer for hours after which I gave up the search for a name online and decided to try mix-matching my initials (like my elder sister did to get her nickname 'OMAO') and then it all came to me. It was all funny at first to my mates in school but they eventually gave in and joined the 'OAMA' movement.

· CM: Achievements so far ?
· OAMA: Apart from the  exhibition I held last year in Lagos, Nigeria titled " Glimpse of God" ,  I can proudly say through Oama Beadz I have been able to start a movement and establish a fast growing market for Oama Beadz and other affiliate companies of the Oama Empire. Through the audience Oama Beadz attracted, I have been able to establish my own football league held in the UK, I am presently working on my fashion line which will drop soon and I am launching my fashion show soon as well. I diversify simply because I dream to own my own empire of companies and be a billionaire!

                                                                                      Oama at his last exhibition.

· CM: Do you work with any other brands ?

· OAMA: No, at least not yet. I'm riding solo for now till I have fully established myself in the business industry, then, brands will start looking for me instead of me looking for brands to work with. I am definitely not an island, I have my squad with me all the time.
Artworks displayed at the exhibition.

    ·    CM: Are you planning on taking your brand internationally ?
    ·    OAMA: Yes, of course. In fact, it is already international. We have started activities in UK for almost a year now.

    · CM:What has been your major challenge ?
    · OAMA: My parents were my major setback, you know how Nigerian parents can be at times. But I know they just want the best for me and they carry out their parenting duties the way they know how to.

    · CM : Your major inspiration ?
    · OAMA : There's this particular someone that motivates me, if not for her... I rest my case there.

    · CM: Where do you see yourself in the nearest future?
    · OAMA :Well, my vision is to build an Empire of my own comprising of diverse fast-growing companies and businesses. And by the age of 25, I will officially become the youngest billionaire in Africa, worst case scenario, in the whole of Nigeria. Simply put, I want to be the next Dangote but achieve everything he achieved at a much younger age. REALLY BIG DREAM RIGHT? Yeah, I am going to give it all it takes.

    · CM : Finally, what would you like to say to up and coming entrepreneurs?
    · OAMA : I'm just going to drop a quote of mine, "Success is the ability to live your life to the fullest doing what you love doing and making the best out of it", ensure not to exclude God. "

Graduate Impersonates Bishop Kukah To Defraud Oyedepo, Dantata, Others

Ku
A graduate of Political Science, Jehu Kwasu, has narrated how he impersonated the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Bishop Matthew Kukah and defrauded prominent Nigerians of millions of naira.
Kwasu said his victims included Bishop David Oyedepo of Living Faith Church Worldwide, who he claimed gave him N500,000; the Chairman, Honeywell Group, Oba Otudeko, N1m; Admiral Ndubuisi Kanu, N500,000; businessman, Alhaji Aminu Dantata, N2m.
He allegedly collected the sums for Internally Displaced Persons.
He said, "I collected N500,000 from Otudeko, CEO, Honeywell: From Admiral Kanu, I got N500,000. I also got N500,000 from Bishop Oyedepo and N2m from Dantata. I also got money from Gen. Wushishi and others.
"I opened a Guaranty Trust Bank account in Bishop Kukah's name. I registered a SIM card in my name, but used Bishop Kukah's picture on my True Caller account, so that when I call, his picture would appear (on the recipient's phone.)"
Kwasu, who is serving a two-month sentence in the Keffi Prison, admitted on Friday in Abuja that he realised over N5.7m.
Police sources said only N1.7m was found in his bank account, adding that the suspect spent most of the money he made on girls and hard drugs.
It was gathered that Kwasu, the son of late Anglican Bishop, James Kwasu, also exploited his father's name, to extort money from the Katsina State Governor, Aminu Masari, when the latter was the Speaker, House of Representatives. The 25-year old explained that he defrauded his victims by soliciting money on phone to cater to IDPs in the country.
The cleric's son stated that he obtained a passport with the name, Mathew Hassah Kukah Jehu, and also opened an account with the GTB in the same name.
He said, "I called people on the telephone and told them I was Bishop Kukah. I used his picture on my True Caller account, so that when I called people, they would think he was the one talking with them.
"I also obtained a passport in Bishop Kukah's name which I used to open an account with GTB. The money I realised was paid into the account and I used an Automated Teller Machine card to withdraw it."
Punch Metro gathered that Kukah was alerted to the scam by some people close to him. The cleric was said to have petitioned the police, which asked the bank to place a "no debit order" on the account.
Following his inability to withdraw from the account, Kwasu was said to have visited the bank to complain, where he was arrested.
Findings indicate that Kwasu had earlier been arrested and remanded in prison for impersonating Bishop Steven Akobe of the Anglican Diocese of Kabba, Kogi State, but was granted bail.
The police said Kwasu had also attempted to extort money from Senator David Mark, claiming to be Akobe.
"Mark said I should come for some money, so I sent my girlfriend. But she was arrested and I was taken to court and sentenced to two months imprisonment or N9,000 fine," Kwasu stated.
It was gathered that the suspect, who had two female siblings, sold his deceased parents' house in Kaduna for N10m and lavished the money on girls and a profligate lifestyle.
The Federal Capital Territory Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Mustafa, stated that Kwasu was arrested by the men of his command, after Kukah complained about his activities.
The CP said, "We received a petition from Bishop Kukah alleging that the boy had been impersonating him and extorting money from prominent people. So, my men went to work and were able to track the suspect and arrest him. He is a habitual criminal and I would like to advise the public against responding to emails or phone calls from unknown persons requesting financial support for one cause or the other."
Mustafa also called on the public to report every suspicious phone call and email to the police for investigation.

The Yeezy Spring/Summer 2017 Ready-To-Wear collection lookbook is out!
The new collection presented to horrible reviews at the Roosevelt Island in New York where he staged a dramatic presentation of the latest offerings from his infamous luxury street style brand.

The Yeezy Season 4 looks were all about neutral tones and palettes that scream minimalist styled athleisure styles. Taking a cue from the past season, the rapper infused even more similar styles from his past collection into the present collection.
Taking obvious cue from military streetwear, pieces were crafted in field jackets, slouchy knitwears that has become a signature, bodycon dresses, leotards, oversized knitwears/sweaters, high boots and more standout pieces.

Extra form fitting silhouettes, nude tones, body baring and more were employed to style the collection that's not special but looks more like another repeat of the Yeezy brand that has fast become unrealistic and a flagrant display of highly unpractical looks that are becoming borderline annoyingly 'un-artsy' unlike what it supposedly stands for.
There's nothing special about the collection and as usual predictable but as usual leave it to creative director; Kanye West to milk something out of it!

Former UNILAG Student Leader Gets 2-year Suspension For Criticizing School Management

Former UNILAG Student Leader Gets 2-year Suspension For Criticizing School Management

Adeyeye Olorunfemi
Adeyeye was suspended for participating in the peaceful student protests of April 6 and 8, 2016.
A student of the Faculty of Environmental Sciences at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Adeyeye Olorunfemi, has been suspended for four semesters for criticizing the management of the Yaba-based school.
Adeyeye, along with the rest of the UNILAG Student Union leadership, was suspended for participating in the peaceful student protests of April 6 and 8, 2016. Those protests led to the school being shut and the Student Union body being suspended indefinitely.
According to Adeyeye, he was only suspended for criticizing the school management and highlighting their inability to effectively manage the institution and student rights as "democrats".
In an article published as a Facebook post, Adeyeye alleged that the Vice Chancellor of UNILAG, Prof. Rahman Bello, was unfit to run the institution, adding that the resources channeled into training Bello were a "waste".

"Vice Chancellor sir!, you remain a first class Chemical engineering graduate from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ife.What has happened to the Great Ife in you!. Our power generation is deteriorating and you are alive . The Nation’s investment of knowledge on you to make you a scholar is a WASTE. Your first class honours degree is the true definition of a FIASCO," Adeyeye said in the Facebook article.
UNILAG
He further went on to allege that the Senate and VC of UNILAG did not care about the welfare of the students before going on to mourn the death of a former lecturer and the youngest professor ever professor of Mechanical Engineering.
"Now,this is our own issue; Welfarism, we can’t find them. Are they telling me that the Name issue is greater than Welfarism. Is the aesthetics of a building more important than the structural stability? , If you don’t know, go ask the MD, Lekki Gardens," Adeyeye said in the post.
"Are there no “common sense” persons in the management anymore? We mourn late Prof. Ayodele Awojobi freshly."

The former UNILAG student leader has received a lot of praise and backlash on social media following the Facebook post and subsequent videos that emerged showing him sticking to his guns.
There has been no official word from the university management on Adeyeye's fiery comments as at the time of writing this article.
Fidei Polytechnic Students Go On Rampage Over Unpaid Tuition

Fidei Polytechnic Students Go On Rampage Over Unpaid Tuition

Destruction in Fidei Polytechnic, Gboko
The students of Fidei Polytechnic, Gboko, have gone on a disastrous rampage, destroying school property worth millions.
The students of Fidei Polytechnic, Gboko went on a rampage over unpaid tuition, leaving a trail of disaster in their wake.
After venting their anger over the tuition costs in the school, the scene of the carnage shows burnt cars and buildings set ablaze during the incident.

The reports revealed that a student who is yet to be identified, was stabbed to death during the fracas, raising suspicion that cultists may have taken advantage of the situation.
The irate students are said to have taken over the Gboko-Aliade road, closing off traffic for almost 48 hours, looted the institution with the aid of touts who hijacked the protest, further aggravating an already bad situation.
Police officers sent to the scene in order to sustain the peace reportedly sustained varying degrees of injuries.
A management staff of the institution disclosed that the madness began on Tuesday, August 30, when some selected students barred from writing their examinations due to failure to pay their school fees, attempted to stop the examinations, reports Vanguard.
“The students who could not pay their tuition moved into the examination halls and started chasing away other students, insisting that the examination should not hold since they were not allowed to write it.
“Soon the aggrieved students started throwing stones and quickly moved to destroy cars and other property in the institution, including the administrative block of the polytechnic which they razed. Consequently the authorities immediately shutdown the school to forestall further destruction. But the students reconvened on Wednesday morning and initiated another round of rampage which they extended to the ever-busy Gboko-Aliade road.
“At that point the crisis had degenerated into a clash between rival cult groups who also engaged security operatives drafted in to protect lives and property in the institution in a fierce battle.
“In the event, one of the students was later found dead in his own pool of blood and it was discovered that his phone, identification card and anything that could give a clue as to who he was had been taken away from him. We suspect that he was probably stabbed to death by a rival cult group because an examination on his body by the police showed that he was stabbed in the chest.”

The proprietor of the institution, Fr. Chris Utov, who was away in Israel for medical attention during the incident, condemned the actions of the students while speaking on the incident. He described the actions of the students as "unwarranted and inexcusable."
“The institution is privately owned and it is what we generate from within that the institution is funded; lecturers are paid and facilities are put in place for the benefit of the students. The students know these basic facts; that is why it is rather strange that they would opt to go on rampage on an issue that ordinarily shouldn’t be a reason for any form of crisis.”
Lamenting the level of destruction meted out on the institution, the proprietor said the actions of the students may have been provoked by external forces.
The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Assistant Superintendent, ASP,  Moses Yamu, confirming the incident, first debunked insinuations that the dead student was killed by security agents, maintaining that the force did not implement the use of force in putting an end to crisis.

Yamu allowed reporters access to the remains of the dead student proving beyond doubt that the victim died from a stab wound and not a bullet wound.
He added:
“The wound on him showed that he was obviously stabbed probably by rival cult members who took advantage of the crisis to create mayhem in the school. From available records, the rampaging students destroyed several property, razed the administrative block of the institution and burnt six vehicles, including one belonging to the Police.
“So far we have a record of two injured police officers, while 22 students, including those who were busy looting the institution’s property, have been arrested.
“As I speak to you the management of the institution has shut down the school, peace has returned to the campus and we have already commenced investigations into the matter.”

OAU School Management Shuts Down Hostel, Mosques, Alleges Prostitution

OAU School Management Shuts Down Hostel, Mosques, Alleges Prostitution

According to the statement, the group allegedly harbours female students for prostitution and teaching of an "alien doctrine".
As I have come to expect - and get used to unfortunately, all kind of strange things are always happening in Nigeria. Today's strangeness is coming out of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State.
Apparently, the Divisional Student Affairs department of the University has stated that it is going to shut down all the mosques in all the hostel in the school.
But why would anyone want to close down a mosque? Well, the Dean of the Divisional Students Affairs department, Dr. G. O. Akinola, in a statement, says the mosques will be closed down for numerous reasons stemming from countless allegations made against a 'splinter group' called MSSN.
According to the statement, the group allegedly harbours female students for prostitution and teaching of an "alien doctrine". Read the rest of the statement below and decided for yourself if this is as weird as I think it is:

The Division of Students Affairs (DSA) acting upon the Statutes and Regulations of Obafemi Awolowo University hereby declares closed until further notice, the two purported mosques in Awolowo and Fajuyi Halls for the reasons of peace, free movement of students and staff within the Halls and the overriding need for the security of all persons, assets and installation in the Halls.
The reasons for this closure are as set out below:

1. On Friday 12th August, 2016 when the current executive members of the Muslim Students Society of Nigeria (MSSN), Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ife Branch were to be inaugurated at the Central Mosque, the Division of Students Affairs (DSA) was invited and was duly represented by the Vice Dean of the Division. There were issues at the inauguration when we were told of another group of Muslim students who wanted to impose themselves and their doctrines which are not consistent with the Constitution of the MSSN members. At that point the  Vice-Dean was asked to interact with this group with a view to finding out what their arguments and positions were;

2. After the Vice-Dean’s interaction with the group (which is yet to give a name to itself, although they insisted that they should be called MSSN too), we decided to call members of the group to a meeting at the DSA.
They came on Tuesday, 23rd August 2016 at 6.15pm. After several attempts at making them attend the parley failed, we eventually held a meeting with them on this 23rd August. We stressed at the meeting the point that the DSA is only aware of the existence of only one MSSN as a registered Muslim students’ group on the campus of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.

We impressed it on the group that even the DSA is also aware that the National body of the MSSN recognises only one MSSN group here on campus. We therefore advised the group to, if they have any issue of disagreement between them and the mainstream MSSN, please for sake of peace on campus and interest of their members take steps to sort them out with the Executive of the MSSN on campus.

3. The meeting deliberated extensively on how to bring this settlement about and at the end of it, it was agreed that a period of one (1) week be given to permit the group interact with the mainstream MSSN and settle their disagreement amicably failing which the two ‘mosques’ at Fajuyi and Awolowo Halls would be closed down for peace to reign.
Note that this splinter group of the MSSN had begun to use the two ‘mosques’ in these Halls as a base for their anti-mainstream MSSN rhetorics and doctrinal disagreement on campus, including recruitment of students for their separate teachings. Note also, that these two ‘mosques’, converted as such were originally Cafeteria buildings meant for the respective halls under the University’s master plan.
We also agreed at the meeting that if the DSA found that they were able to make progress on the reconciliation, even if they have not completely reached an agreement on doctrinal or worship issues, the suggestive closure of the ‘mosque’ would be suspended to permit for more room for rapport and deeper reconciliation. We agreed that we were going to meet again on the very day that the one-week ultimatum to reconcile expired, that is Tuesday 30th August, 2016. Meanwhile, desirous of a way to convince the DSA that the splinter group meant well, they invited the DSA to visit the two ‘mosques’ in Fajuyi and Awolowo Halls to see that there was nothing sinister in the activities of the splinter group and that if anything at all, they have been peaceful and law-abiding.

4. However, on Thursday 25th August, a meeting was held with the University recognized MSSN Executive members. This same MSSN Executive is also recognised by the OAU Muslim Community and by the National body of MSSN in Nigeria. That meeting was called to hear the complaints of the splinter MSSN members and their grievances. The recognized MSSN was informed of the University’s plan to close the ‘mosques’ in Fajuyi and Awolowo Halls if the splinter group of the MSSN failed to make peace with the mainstream MSSN and reconcile accordingly;

5. On Friday 26th August, the MSSN National body paid a courtesy visit to the DSA to discuss the furore over the recognized MSSN on campus. The visitation team led by the President of the National MSSN, Muhammad Jameel Muhammad came in company of the campus mainstream MSSN and some of his officials. The thrust of their visit was to make a passionate appeal to the DSA on their fear for the possibility of “emergence on the OAU campus of an extremist group of Muslim students in a fashion similar to the current Boko Haram insurgency besetting Nigeria”. They expressed some fears and strongly felt that the splinter MSSN group in OAU and what they referred to as “their strange doctrinal principles  and procedures” could lead to the materialization of such fears. The visitation team pleaded with the University through the DSA to do all that was lawful and needful to see that such fears were allayed. The visitation team also reiterated their support for the recognized MSSN mainstream organization and its president. In addition, the team gave a copy of the MSSN Constitution and 5 copies of the articles of faith of the MSSN titled “MSSN at a Glance” to the DSA;

6. On the night of 27th August, 2016 reports came to the Acting Dean, DSA, that the splinter MSSN group were planning to hold a religious programme in Awolowo Hall Cafeteria the following day (i.e. 28th August, 2016), for which they had not sought or obtained permission. The Acting Dean reported to the University Chief Security Officer who immediately sent a group of his men to see how things would go with a view to apprehending any illegality or untoward behaviours and report forthwith. Report came that the religious programme held and that the leaders of the splinter MSSN presided at that programme. The point here is that the group failed to seek or secure approval for this religious activity in the Cafeteria.

7. However, on the night preceding the expiration of the ultimatum given to the Splinter MSSN group, to make peace with the mainstream MSSN and reconcile accordingly, a text message was sent to the Vice Dean, DSA, from the Splinter MSSN group that they had contacted someone who would help broker the reconciliation talks and that the person said he would see the Chief Imam of the Central mosque later. The DSA quickly apprehended this as delay tactics as the text could have been sent earlier. Otherwise, why the night preceding the expiration of the ultimatum to reconcile? In any case, on the agreed date when the ultimatum expired (Tuesday 30th August, 2016), the DSA expected them to come for a meeting at the DSA’s office, but to our chagrin they refused to show up.

8. Meanwhile, acting upon the invitation earlier extended to the DSA by this splinter MSSN group, the Acting Dean and Vice Dean at about 10.45am on 31st August, 2016, visited the Fajuyi and Awolowo Halls with a view to seeing for themselves samples of the activities of the splinter MSSN group. We told them of many irregular and outright illegal things we have heard them do at the ‘mosques’. We made them realise that they had been holding unauthorized religious programmes in these ‘mosques’ and several other places on campus without approval from the DSA. They, however, argued that they had not been violent but law abiding and that they had never done anything illegal or irregular in any of their religious meetings.

9. But on this our visit to Awolowo ‘mosque’, we discovered a door leading to one of the rooms in the ‘mosque’ was securely locked from inside and the occupants refused to open. We threatened to force the door open if they refused any further, and after much persuasion, the door was opened and we discovered to our utter amazement that a group of girls numbering about a dozen were locked inside the room either fully or partially veiled. Our amazement was that the room in which they were locked or locked themselves was in a male hall, we wondered to no end why purported female students would be locked up in a male hall during lecture hours, no matter the excuse. Before we could interrogate them, some escaped through the backdoor of the room but we were able to apprehend three of them from whom we collected their identity cards.

10.  At the Fajuyi Hall, we also discovered to utter shock that a group of girls who purported themselves to be students were locked in a room in the ‘mosque’. We interrogated them and they claimed that they were kept there by their leaders who happen to be the leaders of MSSN splinter group. They, in addition claimed that they were praying in the room. Our dilemma was why a group of female students would claim to be praying during lecture hours in an exclusive male hall at around 11am! There was five girls in this room and we collected the identity cards from four of them. The fifth one who was fully veiled said she had not her identity card on her. However, a male student who vouched for this fully veiled girl volunteered to stand in for her until she produced her identity card. We collected this male student’s identity card.

11. Having observed the seeming obstinacy of the splinter MSSN group to interact with the DSA and to fulfill the requirements of the agreement reached on 23rd August, we again were forced to send a follow-up invitation to them stating that they should come to the DSA for a meeting on Wednesday, 31st August for a serious interaction at the DSA’s office. But to our utter dismay they sent a text message to the DSA that all of them in the group would be having Continuous Assessment tests from 10am to 5pm on 31st August, 2016. We replied that text message that no test of any kind could possibly last from 10am to 5pm in this University and that in their own interest they needed to show up for the meeting on or before 2.00pm on 31st August to discuss the issue of reconciliation as agreed in our last meeting with them.

12. The splinter MSSN group eventually came in the afternoon of 31st August at about 1.15pm. We intimated them with our findings and told them they had to put a stop to their practice of harbouring girls in rooms within the ‘mosques’. Their leaders insisted that they could not abide by that demand and that they reserved the right to keep any of their female members in the rooms in the ‘mosque’! We explained to them that what they were doing was contrary to the laws of the University and the regulations guiding religious worship and students’ conduct. But they held their ground that since the ‘mosque’ was a place of worship they could not abide by the rules and the need to desist from keeping female students within its rooms at any time. The meeting ended in a stalemate.

13. We thereafter pleaded with the Chief Imam of the University to take full charge of the ‘mosques’ and prevent forthwith any breach of the University’s rules within its walls. He declined flatly and said he would rather not be held responsible for what ever happened in those ‘mosques’ as he had since dissociated himself from the practices and doctrines of the splinter MSSN who controlled it.

14. It should be noted that the Federal Government, of Nigeria of which Obafemi Awolowo University is an integral part, has not legalized prostitution in Universities. It is pertinent to note also that no female should be camped in a male facility under the guise of religion, as this is tantamount to running a brothel which will breed prostitution; and this is illegal. It is only fit, proper and responsible that any grossly abused university facility be closed down.

15. Consequently, acting within its powers to prevent any breakdown of law and order and to ensure freedom of movement of persons within the respective halls of residence, especially at this time of dire security concern in the country, the DSA has therefore acted this 2nd day of September, 2016 to seal off and close down henceforth, the two ‘mosques’ in Awolowo and Fajuyi Halls until such a time that orderliness and the rule of the University would be respected within its walls.
